1. Who we are
This privacy policy explains how Thomas Cole, trading as TheBigEDev (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects and uses personal data when you use our mobile apps (currently Sports Tips Star) and the website www.sportstipsstar.com. Thomas Cole is a sole trader and the developer and seller named on the Apple App Store.
Section 7 covers the website. Section 15 explains exactly which services the Sports Tips Star app uses and what data it collects.
| Data controller | Thomas Cole, trading as TheBigEDev (sole trader) – thebigedev.co.uk |
| Location | Kent, England, United Kingdom |

2. The short version
- You don’t need an account to use our apps. We don’t ask for your name, phone number or address.
- We use trusted service providers (mainly Google and RevenueCat) to show ads, send notifications, understand how the apps are used, find crashes and manage subscriptions.
- On iPhone and iPad, we only use your advertising identifier and turn on app analytics if you tap “Allow” on Apple’s tracking prompt. You can change this at any time in Settings.
- Payments are handled by Apple (or Google on Android). We never see your card details.
- We don’t sell your personal data for money. Some US state laws treat personalised advertising as “selling” or “sharing”. Section 12 explains how to opt out.
- Our website uses no cookies and no analytics. Its free-tips feature loads data from our tips server, which sees your IP address in standard server logs (section 7).
- Our apps are for adults aged 18 or over only.
3. What we collect and why
What we collect depends on the choices you make (for example, whether you allow tracking or notifications). Section 15 gives the details for the app.
| Type of data | Examples | Why we use it | Lawful basis (UK/EU GDPR) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Device and app identifiers | Apple’s advertising identifier (IDFA) only if you allow tracking; Firebase app instance and installation IDs; push notification token; the anonymous ID created by our subscription provider | To show ads, deliver notifications, count users, connect crash reports to an install and link purchases to the right device | Consent (for the IDFA and for analytics on iOS); legitimate interests (running and securing the app) |
| App usage data | Screens viewed, app opens, session length, ad views and taps, notification opens, app version, device model, operating system, language and time zone | To understand which features are used and improve the apps; to measure and pay for ads | Consent on iOS (only after you allow tracking); legitimate interests elsewhere |
| Crash and performance data | Crash logs, stack traces, device state when a crash happened, app launch and performance information | To find and fix bugs | Legitimate interests (keeping the app working) |
| Approximate location | A general location (such as country or city) worked out from your IP address by our ad and analytics providers. We never ask for or collect precise GPS location. | To show ads suited to your region and produce country-level statistics | Consent (personalised ads); legitimate interests (country-level statistics) |
| Purchase and subscription data | Which subscription you bought, when it started and renews, price, currency, store country, transaction IDs. Apple or Google handle payment; we never receive card details | To unlock paid features, restore purchases and prevent fraud | Contract (providing what you paid for) |
| Messages you send us | Your email address, name (if you include it) and the content of your message | To answer your question or request | Legitimate interests; contract where it relates to a purchase |
| Website data | Standard server logs (IP address, browser type, address requested, date and time) when you visit www.sportstipsstar.com and when the free-tips feature requests data from api.starsportstips.com. No cookies and no analytics | To deliver and secure the website and the tips data | Legitimate interests (running and securing the website) |
What we don’t collect: we don’t collect precise location, contacts, photos, health data or payment card details. We don’t take bets or hold betting accounts, and we don’t knowingly collect sensitive (“special category”) data.
4. Advertising and tracking
Our free apps are paid for by ads from Google AdMob. On iPhone and iPad, Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt asks whether we may track you across other companies’ apps and websites.
- If you tap “Allow”: Google may use your advertising identifier (IDFA) to show personalised ads and measure them, and our app analytics are switched on.
- If you tap “Ask App Not to Track”: we don’t receive your IDFA and app analytics stay off on iOS. You’ll still see ads, but they won’t be based on tracking across other companies’ apps. Google may still use limited data, such as your IP address and the app you’re using, to serve and measure ads, prevent fraud and keep its systems secure.
- You can change your choice at any time: on iPhone, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. On Android, you can delete or reset your advertising ID in your device’s Google or Privacy settings.
Learn more about how Google uses data from apps that use its services: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and Google advertising.
5. Push notifications
Our apps use Firebase Cloud Messaging to send notifications, such as new tips. Your device asks permission before any notification is shown. To make delivery possible, Google creates a push token for your installation and collects basic device information (device model, language, time zone, operating system and app version). You can turn notifications off at any time in your device’s Settings, under Notifications.
6. Purchases and subscriptions
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We use RevenueCat to check that a purchase is valid and to unlock paid features. RevenueCat receives purchase records from Apple or Google, an anonymous ID that it creates for your installation, and basic device and store information (such as country and currency). Our apps don’t ask for an account, so we can’t usually link a purchase to your name.
7. Our website
- www.sportstipsstar.com uses no cookies, no analytics and no advertising, and it doesn’t use any tracking technology.
- Pages showing free tips make your browser request the tips data directly from our tips server, api.starsportstips.com. Like any web server, it (and the web server hosting the site) sees your IP address and records it, with the time, the address requested and your browser type, in standard server logs. We use these logs only to run and secure the service, and we keep them for 30 days.
- The contact form doesn’t send anything to us through the website. It simply opens your own email app with a pre-filled message, and you decide whether to send it.
- Links to the App Store take you to Apple’s website, where Apple’s privacy policy applies.
8. Who we share data with
We share personal data only with service providers that help us run the apps and the website, and only for the purposes in this policy. They act as our processors or, for some advertising and analytics uses, as independent controllers under their own policies.
| Provider | What they do for us | Their privacy information |
|---|---|---|
| Google LLC / Google Ireland Ltd – Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Cloud Messaging) | App analytics, crash reporting and push notifications | Firebase privacy and security · Google Privacy Policy |
| Google – AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK) | Showing and measuring ads in free versions of our apps | Google advertising · How Google uses data from partner apps |
| RevenueCat, Inc. | Managing and validating subscriptions | RevenueCat Privacy Policy |
| Apple Inc. (App Store) | Distributing the app, taking payment, ratings and reviews | Apple Privacy Policy |
| Google (Google Play, Android apps only) | Distributing the app and taking payment on Android | Google Privacy Policy |
| SmarterASP.NET (site4now.net) | Hosting www.sportstipsstar.com, our tips server api.starsportstips.com and our email | SmarterASP.NET Privacy Policy |
We may also disclose data if the law requires it, to protect our rights or users’ safety, or as part of a sale or transfer of our business (in which case this policy will continue to apply).
9. International transfers
Our providers, mainly Google, RevenueCat and our hosting provider, may process data in the United States and other countries outside the UK and EEA. Where they do, we rely on safeguards recognised by UK and EU law, such as the UK–US Data Bridge and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (where the provider is certified), or standard contractual clauses (including the UK Addendum or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement). Contact us for more information.
10. How long we keep data
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics) | 90 days, after which Google deletes them |
| App analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase) | User-level event data is kept for 2 months (our Google Analytics data-retention setting), then deleted by Google. Aggregated, non-identifying reports may be kept longer |
| Push tokens (Firebase Cloud Messaging) | Until the token stops being used (for example, you delete the app) and is cleaned up under Google’s retention practices |
| Advertising data (AdMob) | Under Google’s retention policies (see the links in section 8) |
| Subscription records (Apple / Google and RevenueCat) | Purchase records are held by Apple (or Google) and RevenueCat under their own retention policies (see section 8). We don’t keep separate copies |
| Emails you send us | Up to 2 years after we last hear from you |
| Website and server logs (including api.starsportstips.com) | 30 days |
| Data stored only on your device | Until you delete the app (deleting the app removes it) |
11. Your rights (UK and EU)
If UK or EU data protection law applies to you, you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of your personal data (access)
- ask us to correct it
- ask us to delete it
- ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to our use of it (including for direct marketing)
- ask for your data in a portable format
- withdraw consent at any time (for example by switching off tracking or notifications in Settings). This doesn’t affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
To make a request, email info@starsportstips.com with the subject “Privacy request”. Because our apps don’t have accounts, we may need help to find your data. For example, tell us which device you use and, for subscriptions, the order ID from your Apple or Google receipt. We’ll reply within one month. You can delete data stored on your device at any time by deleting the app. If you ask us to delete data held by our providers, we’ll pass the request on to them where their tools allow it.
You can also complain to a data protection authority. In the UK, that’s the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, 0303 123 1113). In the EU, it’s the authority in your country. We’d appreciate the chance to sort things out first, so please contact us.
12. Your rights in US states (including California)
Depending on where you live (for example California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon and other states with privacy laws), you may have the right to:
- know which personal data we collect, use and disclose, and get a copy;
- correct or delete it;
- opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal data and of targeted advertising. We don’t sell data for money, but letting Google use device identifiers for personalised ads may count as “sharing” or “targeted advertising” under these laws;
- not be treated differently for using your rights.
How to opt out: on iPhone, choose “Ask App Not to Track” or switch off tracking in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. On Android, delete your advertising ID. You can also email info@starsportstips.com with the subject “Do Not Sell or Share”. Our website has no tracking, advertising or analytics, so there is nothing for browser opt-out signals such as Global Privacy Control to switch off there. In the app, tracking is controlled by Apple’s App Tracking Transparency setting described in section 4.
In the last 12 months we’ve collected these categories of personal information (California categories): identifiers (device and advertising IDs, IP address); internet or other electronic network activity (app usage, ad interactions); approximate geolocation (from IP address); commercial information (subscription purchases); and, for people who contact us, contact details. We don’t collect sensitive personal information. We collect it from you, your device and our service providers, for the purposes in section 3, and disclose it to the providers in section 8. Retention is in section 10.
You or an authorised agent can make a request by emailing info@starsportstips.com. We’ll need to verify the request, and we’ll respond within the time the law requires (usually 45 days). If we turn down your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision. We’ll answer the appeal within the legal time limit.
13. Children and age limits
Our apps are for adults aged 18 or over (or older where the law where you live sets a higher age for gambling-related services, for example 21 in some US states). They aren’t aimed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you think a child has used our app and given us personal data, contact us and we’ll delete it.
14. Security, changes and contact
We use the security measures our providers offer, and our apps talk to our servers over encrypted connections (HTTPS). No system is completely secure, so please contact us straight away if you think there’s a problem.
We may update this policy, for example when we add a new app or service. We’ll change the “Last updated” date and, for significant changes, tell you in the app or on this page. Questions? Email info@starsportstips.com.
